Abstract

Introduction: Acute onset pontine (AOP) infarction presents significant challenges in understanding the structural and functional changes within corticobulbar pathways, crucial for motor and speech functions. Existing literature lacks comprehensive studies utilizing advanced neuroimaging techniques, particularly diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), to characterize these alterations.

Purpose: This study aims to fill this gap by employing DTI to investigate corticobulbar pathway changes following AOP infarction, providing insights into the pathophysiology and guiding therapeutic interventions.

Methodology: A comprehensive literature review was conducted, focusing on neuroimaging studies of AOP infarction published from 2018 onwards.

Result/Conclusion: The analysis reveals a dearth of empirical research specifically examining corticobulbar pathways in AOP infarction. This study offers a novel approach to characterize structural changes, filling critical gaps in understanding and paving the way for targeted therapeutic interventions and personalized patient care strategies.
